This is a song writing contest in authentic Binisayang-Pandan (BNSP) to be held on April 23 at 4 p.m. at the Pandan Bay Institute to be integrated along with the Pandan Antique Association (PAF) youth development activities. This is contributed as a project of PAGTATAP FOUNDATION INC. (Philippines), sponsored by the Rodillon family, with the aim of nurturing and cultivating the preservation of the Pandananon culture and dialect.
Being a song writing contest the emphases are on the songs and their composers who will receive the cash prizes. The singers, as the medium by which the song becomes appreciated by the judges and the general public, will receive trophies for the interpretation.
Prizes for the winning compositions:
1st Prize - P7,000.00 plus trophy
2nd Prize - 2,000.00 plus trophy
3rd Prize - 1,000.00 plus trophy
Singers interpreting the above winning songs will receive trophies of recognition.
Consolation items may be added to the above depending on availability.
SPECIFIC CONTEST RULES AND PROCEDURES:
1. The song lyrics must be written in authentic Binisayang-Pandan and the composer must be a bona fide citizen of Pandan who has spent a significant part of his life in the town enough to acquire mastery of the dialect. The composer may be an individual or a group.
2. The song must be original and not an adaptation, revival, or recycled existing compositions.
3. The song must not contain words, phrases or messages that are offensive to morality, positive youth development, public approval or religion.
4. The participants must submit a cassette tape for each song entry before the contest date, preferably by the 22nd of April for pre-screening. Contact persons are Edgar Rodillon, Gina Rodillon, and Mimi Ortega.
5. Only the best five entries based on the submitted cassette tapes will compete for the winning categories. The selection of the qualifying entries will be made before noon on the 23rd of April.
6. Judging criteria will be as follows:
Content - 30 points. The lyrics of the song should be meaningful, wholesome and written in genuine Binisayang-Pandan.
Originality - 20 points. The music and lyrics should not be copied, adapted, modified or similar, to existing new and old musical compositions.
Music and Rhythm - 25 points. The tune should be pleasant to the listeners from any age group, should be well-organized and properly arranged.
Interpretation and Delivery - 25 points. The singer-artist should be able to give life and color to the composition. It should be appreciated by both young and old. Accompanying instruments may be pre-taped, or actual guitar, keyboards, violin or other acceptable musical instrument(s).
7. The judges will rate the entry songs by a score card on a points system based on the above. The leader of the judging panel will collect and tabulate the individual scores from the judges to determine the winning entry. A tie may be allowed between the 2nd and 3rd places in which case the prizes for the two levels will be combined and split equally between the tied entries. The 1st prize should be a single winning entry and a tie in this case will be broken by a vote from an arbitrator chosen by the existing judges, from among the rest of the PAGTATAP members.
8. The prizes and trophies for the winners will be awarded on the PAGTATAP night on April 25.
